A True Champion

We are delighted to report that the very lovely Mike Fish and his wife and business partner Sam Tate, have been awarded Champion on Norfolk Food & Drink 2018.

A few years ago, our illustrious Board decided that it was time to champion our champions - to create an award in recognition of those extra special individuals who have championed not only the work that Norfolk Food & Drink does, bit have been a beacon for the county’s food and drink industry as a whole.

It was fitting therefore that the first recipient was Richard Woolliams. Former Director of Bidwells, Richard helped to shape Norfolk Food & Drink into what it is today. The following year it was presented to Roger and Pam Willis, who have pioneered the Slow Food movement in Aylsham.

So Mike and Sam are in good company and indeed, deserve to be, for they have quietly but relentlessly championed the regions food and drink for years. If you don’t recognise their names, you will certainly know their business - the divine Scrummy Pig farm shop and deli at Wroxham Barns. This delightful Aladdin’s Den of mouth watering food and drink is all the more remarkable when you realise that nearly everything they stock is local. Furthermore they are producers themselves - Sam is a butcher who has entered our own Battle of the Bangers for many years and they also do their own range of spices and rubs.

They have also tirelessly championed Proudly Norfolk Food & Drink. There isn’t a week that goes by when Mike doesn’t email us with a new member who he’s told about our industry membership scheme. Plus, we must mention their charity work as they are always supporting local fundraising endeavours within the community.

As if this wasn’t enough, Mike and Sam are just in the process of launching their newest venture - Hungry Ewe, which combines their concept of a locally sourced farm shop and deli, with a coffee shop and restaurant - all in the heart of the thriving hub of Wroxham. Their dining will focus on tasting platters and grazing boards from across Norfolk and East Anglia. Although not yet fully open for dining (and trust us, we will be letting you know when it does), the premises is open for shopping and a visit and we can heartily recommend a visit.

So it is a real pleasure to present Sam and Mike with our Champion of Norfolk Food & Drink Award. If you didn’t know they before, you do now, so please take a moment to visit them either at Scrummy Pig or Hungry Ewe, pop in and say Hi! You are guaranteed a warm welcome.
