This month we have been talking all about Norfolk Day with Editor of the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News, David Powles, who has lots to say about this exciting initiative for Norfolk.
“We have been staggered by the response so far to Norfolk Day on Friday, July 27 – but there’s still room for so many more events and ideas.
When we launched the project two months ago we had no idea how people would take the idea. But within five minutes social media was flying and #NorfolkDay was trending across the whole of the country.
Since then we’ve had thousands of positive responses and scores of concrete ideas.
For those who have missed it so far, Norfolk Day is meant as 24 hours in which we unashamedly shout about how fantastic this county is.
It’s a chance to celebrate our rich heritage, revel in our stunningly beautiful landscapes, highlight the fantastic innovation that goes on here and make the most of our wide range of activities and entertainment on offer for people of all ages. I’m not afraid to admit that, like many of the best ideas, this is one that is stolen. Yorkshire Day has been a fixture and a success for many years. Last year the first ever Suffolk Day was a big hit. I’m biased of course, but I think we can make Norfolk Day an even bigger and better occasion than the one across the border.
But in order to do that we need your help. This will only be a success if people, organisations and businesses from all four corners of the county make it so.
I would urge anyone reading this to think about ways they may be able to get involved, even if it is just by showing the Norfolk Day colours when Friday, July 27 comes along.
For your particular sector there are numerous ideas you could pursue. Some places have agreed to do a Norfolk Day menu or particular item, others are running special offers on the day itself. Perhaps you could even host a special event.
In return we will provide you coverage of your involvement and the chance for our thousands of readers to know more about you. This is a fantastic opportunity for all our Norfolk businesses and organisations to put themselves in the shop window.
