Emily Norton Joins NFAD Board

We are very pleased to welcome dairy farmer Emily Norton to the board of Norfolk Food & Drink.

A graduate of Cambridge University and Harper Adams University College (MSc Sustainable Agriculture), qualified lawyer Emily returned to work in the family’s dairy business in Norfolk ten years ago. Nortons Dairy supplies milk, butter, cheese, cream and yogurt direct to the public from the farm. Nortons’ St Swithins Soft was awarded a Gold Medal and Best in Category at the British Cheese Awards last year – and Emily was also a finalist in the Farmers Weekly Awards 2017 Mixed Farmer of the Year category. Our newest board member is an advisor to a senior European politician and is a Nuffield Scholar for 2018.

As a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, Norfolk Food & Drink is run by a Board of Directors voted into post. The Directors are all unpaid and are experts in their field, bringing to the table their own unique skill set to ensure that Norfolk Food & Drink is professionally managed and realises its goals and ambitions. Background information on all our Directors can be found on our website, but here’s a quick snapshot of our board members:

Sarah de Chair has a background and extensive experience in organising and running events and was the Show Manager at the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association for twelve years. Sarah has been involved in Norfolk Food & Drink for twelve years and has been Chairman of the Board for the past five years.

Gary Attfield has a long and impressive career with nationally acclaimed publishing company Archant. Gary has been involved in working with Norfolk Food & Drink for many years and has been integral to a number of successful joint publications.

Nigel Chapman holds an MBA from the University of East Anglia and has had a long and prestigious career in banking. He has also held the post of President of the Association of Property Lenders. Having recently retired, Nigel was delighted to be asked onto the Board of Norfolk Food and Drink as Treasurer.

Nick Mills, Managing Director of Brasted’s. After working in some of London’s finest hotels and restaurants, Nick joined Brasted’s as a part time waiter in 1991, whilst studying a BSc in Business Management and a BA in Hospitality; nine years later he was made Managing Director. Nick has been an integral member of the steering committee of Norfolk Food & Drink since it was founded in 2004.

Dee Rawsthorne has a BSc in Zoology and a PhD in plant pathology. Dee had a career in science administration, communications and public engagement on the Norwich Research Park and has been on the steering committee of Norfolk Food & Drink for over ten years.

Barry Wells - Director of Foodcare Systems, a family owned business with a showroom and offices based in Kings Lynn. Established 25 years ago, Foodcare is are a national supplier of tableware and barware for the catering and hospitality industry.
