Feasting for Parkinson’s UK
One of the region’s most popular foodie events took place towards the end of last month – and we’ve just found out that it raised a staggering £27,500 for Parkinson’s UK!
Lloyd Addison’s Moveable Feast has been a highlight of the region’s gastronomic calendar for an incredible 18 years. Founded by the late Lloyd Addison, a former City Councillor and restaurateur, the event was set up to promote Norwich’s independent restaurant trade, while raising vital research funds for Parkinson’s UK, a condition which Lloyd lived with for many years.
Our joint title sponsors, Cozens-Hardy solicitors, have sponsored the event for the past eight consecutive years and with their support the event has grown year-on-year. It’s a huge team effort, spearheaded by Lloyd’s widow, Cynthia, a tiny organising committee – and an extraordinary number of Parkinson’s UK volunteers on the night.
What we particularly love about this event is the community spirit it embodies. Not only is it a fantastic event to take part in (who wouldn’t love the chance to eat three courses in three different Norwich restaurants on one evening!) but also both The Forum and Gowise Print give their goods and services for free – and, in addition, a huge number of local businesses donate raffle prizes. Without such tremendous local support and enthusiasm, the event simply wouldn’t raise such an incredible amount of money each year for Parkinson’s UK.
As in previous years, diners were invited to score the restaurants they visited, so that an overall winning restaurant could be crowned. After all 1126 votes were counted, across 21 restaurants, the accolade for 2018 went to the William & Florence pub on Unthank Road. Congratulations to everyone involved from us all at Norfolk Food & Drink!
