Local Flavours – The Dutch Connection
Local Flavours returns to the Norfolk Showground Arena in September 2018 with over 100 East Anglian food and drink producers on show. 1,000 buyers will be attending the event from the hospitality, catering, food retail and tourism industries.
This year, Local Flavours will welcome a group of Dutch buyers to the show to encourage new trade opportunities, between the East of England and the Netherlands.
The Netherlands and the East of England have long withstanding connections, dating back to the 1560s when the first ‘Strangers’ were welcomed here. The region retains economic links with there, notably oil, gas, and the growing renewables industry in the southern North Sea, as well as aviation, agri-tech and food processing.
Local Flavours is sponsored by many public and private sector organisations. Over the years it has shifted tens of thousands of pounds of local produce manufactured in the East of England; connecting producers with buyers both locally and nationally including the likes of Morrisons, Tesco, Co-op, Compass Group, Center Parcs, Serco and more. There are buyers for everyone who exhibits from the largest national supermarkets to the smallest local cafes and restaurants
The Dutch connection is a move by the local food industry to develop further relationships with buyers separated only by a strip of ocean. Easy access by ferries, trains or planes increases the attractiveness and with Brexit on the horizon the importance of building relationships with
Visitors to the event will also enjoy demonstrations, sampling and can make use of business support areas for their own business needs. The recently launched Food Enterprise Zone will be displaying their ambitious plans to support the industry and the UEA will also be promoting recent work on encouraging purchasing of local produce.
Local Flavours is an initiative founded and organised every year by The Lively Crew, to bring buyers and suppliers together in an informal environment to connect and do business.
