Reflecting on this year’s fabulous family friendly foodie fiesta

On Sunday 17th June Norfolk Food & Drink were proud to bring you the 14th annual Norwich Food & Drink Festival – our annual flagship event.

Once again taking place in and around The Forum, St Peter’s Street and Bethel Street this much loved event was bigger and better than ever, with something for everyone.

Before we go any further we would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who made this possible – The Forum for donating the venue, Creative Sponge for doing our branding, Norwich Print Solutions for printing and all the sponsors listed below. Not to mention the many volunteers who supported us in the planning and on the day. But a special thanks to Cozens-Hardy solicitors – headline sponsors for the fourth consecutive year, they give freely and generously of their time and money to ensure this amazing event is free for everyone to enjoy year after year.

So what was on offer for 2018? Of course, there was the last of the Battle of the Bangers, with 9 fantastic butchers battling it out for the final time. And the result was a double win for audience and judges favourite alike – Archers. Winners on so many occasions, Jamie and his team once again delivered their classic pork sausage, to much praise. Sponsored by Canaccord and organised by The RedCat Partnership, a big thanks to them and all the butchers who worked so hard to make this last Battle go with a Bang!

For thirsty festival goers, the Adnams Pop Up Festival Bar had a huge range of alcoholic and soft drinks, and this year we also offered Norfolk Raider Cider and Green Farm Coffee. Those enjoying the sunshine in our beer garden could also enjoy live music from Alison the Violinist and band Head Rush and a special thanks to Sue at Posh Plants, who once again donated the amazing topiary which made the area look so special. And of course, if you were hungry, there was our street food market offering everything from pizzas, BBQ and hog roast to waffles and ice cream and much more!

Inside The Atrium our Cookery Demonstration Kitchen had a fabulous line up of some of the county’s best known and best loved chefs throughout the day and a huge thank you to each of them – Chris ‘Buzz’ Busby, Executive Chef and Director of Brasted’s; Richard Bainbridge and this team from Benedicts Restaurant; Richard Hughes of The Assembly House Norwich; Kate Barmby, columnist, teacher, cookery writer, former Great British Bake Off Contestant and Champion of Norfolk Food & Drink; Andrew Jones of Farmyard and The Dial House; and Candi Robertson of Candi’s Chutney with Andrew Baker of OPEN.

Our Foodie Fun Zone was more fun than ever, with fabulous games from Orchard Toys, activities from The British Science Association and face painting by Lucy all taking place inside the Atrium. Whilst outside, Splat the Dad returned with a vengeance and poor Jeremy Goss from the Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind found himself on the receiving end of a wet sponge. But he took it in good humour, as there was a collection for the charity throughout the day!

And of course, not forgetting Ben Burgess and their amazing tractor which took pride of place just by the Guildhall.

Last but not least our Producers Street market. Sponsored for the second consecutive year by those lovely people at Lovewell Blake, we had over 45 stands offering a vast array of food and drink produce, which was a fabulous reminder of what a fantastic, eclectic and amazing food and drink community we have here in Norfolk. Many of them are Proudly Norfolk Food & Drink members, and we were proud of every single one of them!

Our sincere thanks to everyone who took part, supported and came along on the day.
