Why did the chicken cross the road? To collect its Great Taste Award of course!
Proudly Norfolk member Chestnut Farm Poultry has been celebrating success at the Great Taste Awards this year.
We were thrilled to learn that the farm’s free-range Norfolk Farm Chicken was awarded a prestigious 2 star Great Taste award – which means that judges dubbed it ‘above and beyond delicious’. Overwhelming feedback from the judges included ‘exceptionally tender and moist with a succulent texture and pronounced chicken flavour’ and ‘a reminder of what a wonderful thing a good slow grown chicken can be’.
Great Taste are arguably the world’s most coveted food awards. Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is vinegar, granola, bacon or cheese being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a 1, 2 or 3 star.
There were 12,634 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, 192 were awarded a 3-star, 1,207 received a 2-star and 3,254 were awarded a 1-star accolade.
Other Proudly Norfolk producers being awarded stars this year include Old Rectory Preserves, Eastgate Larder, Yare Valley Oils, Kettle Foods, The Tealady, Essence Foods, Marsh Pig and Walsingham Farms Shop. A huge well done to our fabulous Norfolk producers!
